Learning Support for Aspiring Scientists

I work with students and early-career researchers who want to think, write, and communicate like scientists, not just pass a class.

Through one-on-one online sessions, I help you build the skills that matter in real labs and research careers: making sense of complex biology, designing and critiquing experiments, and turning your ideas into clear, compelling narratives.

Sessions are scheduled and billed through Wyzant for convenience.

What I Help With

1. Scientific Writing & Communication

For students who are writing lab reports, theses, manuscripts, or personal statements and want them to sound like they belong in real science conversations. I can help you:

  • Clarify your main message and scientific story
  • Structure reports, proposals, and papers so they make sense to a critical reader
  • Translate dense ideas into clear, precise language
  • Understand and respond to feedback from instructors or reviewers

2. Bioengineering & Molecular Biology Foundations

For learners who want to go beyond memorizing pathways and actually understand how systems work. I can help you:

  • Navigate and solve challenging course assignments
  • Build intuition for gene regulation, chromatin, RNA, and synthetic biology
  • Walk through figures and methods from textbooks or papers
  • Connect what you see in class to what happens in real experiments
  • Prepare for upper-level coursework or research projects in bioengineering, biotechnology, or molecular biology

3. Academic Pathways & “Next Step” Prep

For students at transition points: college-aspiring high schoolers, undergraduates, and early grad students who want guidance from someone who has walked the path. I can help you:

  • Understand what strong preparation looks like for bioengineering, biology, or related majors
  • Brainstorm and polish application essays, research statements, and CVs
  • Frame your experiences (even small ones) in a way that resonates with committees
  • Set realistic, ambitious academic goals and identify gaps you can work on now

Who This is For

This type of learning support is a good fit if you are:

  • A college-aspiring high school student who is serious about bioengineering, molecular biology, or related fields and wants to build a strong foundation early
  • An undergraduate in biology, bioengineering, biochemistry, or related disciplines who wants deeper understanding and stronger writing
  • A master’s or PhD student who needs support with scientific writing, reading papers, qualifying exams, or early publications
  • An early-career researcher who wants a mentor outside their immediate lab to help with thinking, writing, and planning

How Sessions Work

  • Format: 1:1 online sessions (video + shared documents or whiteboard) or in-person within my travel radius
  • Focus: We typically start with a specific goal: a draft, a concept you’re stuck on, an upcoming assignment, or a bigger milestone (e.g., thesis, application, paper).
  • Style: Collaborative and supportive, but honest. I will ask questions, challenge fuzzy thinking, and help you see your work the way an instructor, reviewer, or admissions committee would.
